Coronavirus Update 16.03.20

Assalaamu Alaikum

Dear Parents & Volunteers

Further to my previous email, after consulting with our school Management team and Board of Trustees a decision has been taken to close the School of Islamic Studies with immediate effect until after the Easter break insha Allah.

This means students will miss the following 2 Sundays, one of which would have been for the end of Term 2 tests. As a result, these tests will now be deferred to Sunday 19th April which is our scheduled start for Term 3 insha Allah. Revision material/topics will be circulated where possible.

We will continue to monitor the situation and advise of any extended period of closure should it become necessary.

During this period, if you or any member of your family/friends are unfortunate enough to test positive for Coronavirus please can we request you notify us immediately or complete a form on our website https://sis.mkis.org

Notifying us will enable the wider school community to follow self isolation guidelines and limit the impact of exposure insha Allah.

Jazakoum’Allah Khayr for your understanding and support. This is a difficult time for all people so please continue to remember us all in your duas.

Corona Virus Notice

Assalaamu Alaikum

Dear Parents
No doubt you will be receiving many emails and messages concerning the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak currently.
As you may be aware, at the point of writing this email neither the Government nor local councils have made any announcements regarding total school closures and so for the time being, it is the decision of the SIS Management team for the School of Islamic Studies to remain open for now.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will inform all parents and volunteers should the situation change of course.

What you can do

While it is a deeply concerning time, as Muslims we must remain steadfast in our belief that only Allah (swt) can both bring and take away such hardships and illnesses.  To this end, in addition to praying for the welfare of the entire Muslim Ummah, there are some practical actions we must all take in order to do our best to safeguard ourselves and those around us.

  1. Remain in a state of wudhu: while this is encouraged even under normal circumstances, the importance of cleanliness is even more important in the current climate
  2. Wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds each time with soap and water or hand sanitiser, especially when you:
    • Get home or into work/school
    • Blow your nose, sneeze or cough
    • Eat or handle food
  3. Avoid physical contact (shaking hands/hugging) outside of your immediate household

We must also encourage our children to adopt the above actions as they may not be as vulnerable, but they may carry the virus to more vulnerable people around us.
Lastly, please can we ask for you to follow the standard guidelines provided by your child(ren)’s mainstream schools concerning attendance.  If you or your child(ren) have suffered from fever, repeated dry coughing or breathing difficulties in the past 7 days, we ask that you do not attend the School of Islamic Studies, and instead follow the recommended self isolation procedures published by the the Healthcare authorities or contact NHS Direct on 111 if your symptoms are severe.
We will continue to publish updates regarding our school on our website (sis.mkis.org) as and when they are available so please check back often and subscribe to our Twitter feed (@mkisinfo).
May Allah (swt) guide and protect us during this very difficult time and please remember us all in your duas insha Allah.
Jazakoum’Allah Khayr

Please check back here regularly over the coming days insha Allah.
